They arrived at the hospital, and Naomi couldn't wait for the car to come to a complete stop before she rushed out, Mia following closely behind. They hurried inside, where Naomi met the woman who had phoned her at the lobby.
"Aunt, what happened to my father?" Naomi asked tensely.
Nathan and Alex joined them, and as soon as Alex stepped into the hospital, the atmosphere changed. The lobby became crowded, with people murmuring and snapping photos of Alex and Nathan. The ladies were blushing, and the men were eager to get closer to them.
To ease the commotion, the doctor arrived and led Alex and the group to his office. As they entered the office, they sat down, and the doctor smiled at Alex.
"Your Highness, what a surprise to see you here."
"Yeah, we're here because a patient was rushed here some hours ago. His name is Mr. Daniel."
Naomi nodded, her eyes fixed on the doctor.
"Oh, yes... Mr. Daniel."The doctor's face turned serious.
"What happened to my father? Is he okay?"Naomi's voice trembled.
The doctor looked at her, his eyes lingering on her face before turning to Alex, a hint of surprise in his face.
"You are his daughter?"
Naomi nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. Mia placed a comforting arm around her shoulders.
"Yes, I am," She replied, her voice cracking. "What happened to him?"
"Well, it's nothing serious. He was rushed here because he fell and sustained a minor injury on his leg, but don't worry, he'll be fine."
"Can I see him now?"Naomi's face lit up with relief.
"Yeah, hold on." He made a quick phone call to one of his nurses. Shortly after, a nurse entered the office. "Take her to the new patient, Mr. Daniel, in his ward," the doctor instructed.
The nurse nodded and led the way, with Naomi and Mia following closely behind.
Nathan turned to the doctor. "Will the patient be okay?"
"Yes, we'll keep him under observation for a few days before he can be discharged."
"Okay, don't worry about the expenses. I'll cover everything. Just make sure he receives the best treatment and move him to the VIP section."Alex said, his voice authoritative.
"Sure, Your Highness."The doctor smiled, nodding.
At the hospital ward, Naomi sat beside her father, with Mia by her side. Mr. Daniel was awake, smiling faintly at them.
Naomi's eyes welled up with tears as she grasped her father's hand, relief washing over her.
"Why do you have to do that? I've told you before, whenever you need something, you should inform Aunt. That's why I assigned her to look after you when I'm not around."
"I know, I didn't want to stress her anymore. She's been a helpful hand to me."
"But she's not complaining. What if the worst had happened?"Mia said firmly.
"But I'm fine, it's just a minor injury."
"You call this minor? Have you forgotten you're a diabetic patient? Any little injury can result in something worse."
"I'm sorry I worried you."
"I was scared. Please don't ever do that again. I don't want to lose you."She sniffed, her voice trembling.
"I promise I'll be careful next time."he smiled, and he caressed Naomi's face.
Mia smiled warmly at the tender moment between Naomi and her father.
Just then, Alex and Nathan entered the room, smiling warmly. Mr. Daniel stared at them, confusion etched on his face.
"Good day, Uncle. How are you feeling?" Alex asked, his voice warm and friendly.
Mr. Daniel's face turned puzzled. "I'm fine..."
"Dad, this is His Highness and his friend."Naomi intervened.
"Alex?" He said surprisedly.
Alex nodded, smiling. "Yes, Uncle."
"Oh my goodness! Is this really you? You've grown so big, I couldn't recognize you. My daughter didn't tell me you'd grown to be so handsome."
Alex and Nathan chuckled at Mr. Daniel's enthusiastic reaction.
"Yes, Uncle, it's me."He smiled warmly.
"The pleasure is all mine."
"Are you feeling any better, Uncle?"Nathan asked, his voice friendly.
"Yes, I'm fine, thank you both for coming."
"It's always a pleasure, Uncle. You should always take care of yourself."Alex smiled.
Naomi stood up to leave. "Dad, I'll be right back. Let me go see the doctor."
"Okay."Mr. Daniel nodded.
Naomi left with Mia, leaving Alex and Nathan alone with Mr. Daniel. They stared after them, a thoughtful look on their face, before returning thier gaze to Mr. Daniel.
"How have you been?" Mr. Daniels asked
"I've been good."
Nathan sat down on the sofa, his eyes fixed on Mr. Daniel.
"I didn't get the chance to ask for your forgiveness," he said.
"Forgiveness for what? You didn't wrong me."
"We did. I'm sorry for what happened twenty years ago. Please don't be mad at Naomi; she was just a kid then. I deserve to take the blame for everything."
"Oh, come on, Uncle. That's in the past now. I'm not mad at any of you. You and Naomi are like family to me. Can we leave the past behind us?"
"Thank you."
They shared a warm smile, Just then, Naomi, Mia, the doctor, and some nurses entered the room.
"Dad, the doctor said he's moving you to another room," Naomi said, surprise etched on her face.
"Why?" Mr. Daniel asked.
"I don't know, that's what he told me".
"It's okay, there's nothing to be afraid of. I told the doctor to move him to a better room."Alex intervened, his voice calm.
"Yes, he'll get the best treatment over there."The doctor nodded in agreement.
Naomi, Mr. Daniel, and Mia stared at Alex in surprise, unsure of what to say.
Some minutes later, Mr. Daniel was moved to the VIP section, where he was settled into a more conducive room. The luxurious amenities left them all amazed.
Mr. Daniel's face lit up with gratitude as he thanked Alex for his kindness.
After they had settled in, Mia fed Mr. Daniel some food, while Nathan sat behind them, watching. Meanwhile, Naomi and Alex moved a little distance away from the others.
"Um, I just wanted to thank you for your help." She said, her face bow to the ground.
"Why are you thanking me with your face bowed to the ground? Can't you look at me?"
Naomi hesitated, her eyes fixed on the floor. She slowly raised her face, avoiding eye contact with Alex.
"Um, thank you once again." Naomi said.
"It's nothing, it's the least I can do... but this will cost you."
Naomi's eyes widened in surprise as Alex took a step closer to her. The atmosphere around them seemed to thicken, and everyone's attention turned to them.
"It will cost you if you stop running away from me." His eyes locked onto Naomi's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other.
Some minutes later, Naomi and Mia followed Alex and Nathan outside to their car. The hospital grounds were less crowded now, with only a few people milling around. They walked with the guys to their car.
"Thank you so much." Naomi said.
"You're welcome, just look after your father."
Nathan turned to Mia, as he moved a little closer to her. "You're not coming with us?"
"No, I'm staying with my sister." She took a step back, avoiding eye contact with Nathan.
"Okay."
They waved goodbye as Alex and Nathan got into the car and drove off.
As soon as they were out of sight, Naomi and Mia let out a deep breath.
"So, what are you going to do? Will you stop running away from him? You know you owe him a lot." Mia said.
"I just don't know what to do. I really don't want to get involved with him. Getting close to him will land me in trouble."
"But you can't hide from it now."
"It was so hard to control myself in front of him. I don't want this to go further."
"You're right, as much as we owe him for Dad's medical bills, we just have to be careful."
They sighed, then turned to head back to the hospital, lost in their thoughts.
As they drove away from the hospital, Alex was lost in thought, his eyes gazing out the window. Nathan, meanwhile, was stealing glances at Alex while still focusing on the road.
"What's the storyline between you and Naomi?"
Alex sighed, his thoughts interrupted. "It's nothing."
"Is there something I should know? What happened between you two?"
"We were friends when we were kids, but something happened that made us stop being friends."
"What happened?"
"Maybe some other day."
Nathan nodded, focusing on the road ahead. They drove in silence for a few moments until Nathan's eyes caught sight of something in the backseat.
"What's that?" he wondered aloud.
"What?" He turned to him.
Nathan's eyes flicked to the rearview mirror. "I guess they left their files in the car."
Alex turned to the backseat, his eyes scanning the area. He spotted the files and stretched out his hand to pick them up. As he began to flip through them, his eyes widened in surprise.
"What files are those?" Nathan asked curiously.
"It's their CV."
"Wow."
"They're quite intelligent." He nodded, still scanning the files.
