Alexander's POV
Do you ever get that feeling like your heart is beating so fast, yet you can't breathe? Or when you are disoriented and befuddled, but mostly terrified?
I gulped down another full glass of water in an attempt to relieve the tension raging inside of me, but nothing happened. It just keeps getting worse.
"I don't give a dà mn where you look, just find her!" I yelled at my men, and they all nodded before leaving.
I turned my head to Derek, who also seemed very worried; his wife panic-stricken and his sons frightened.
"Wait." Darren's commanding voice brought my men to a halt. "She didn't just leave like that, she was kidnappéd, and when someone kidñaps someone, they call to ask for ransom. Let's wait for a few more minutes."
It made sense. Deluxe wouldn't just leave like this, especially when her family and I aren't getting along. Many lives are in danger when we are all together; it is either they kÃll me or I kÃll them.
I nodded once at my men, and they stayed put in their spot, waiting for my next command, which could come anytime. They have been here for about fourteen hours, and it is currently 11:12 am, and I don't have my girlfriend in my arms.
I think I'm about to lose it.
I don't know why I haven't lost it yet.
Internally, I'm panicking, and externally, I'm freaking out. Both inside and outside of my body can't handle any more stress that just keeps increasing with each second.
And as if right on cue, the annoying ringtone Deluxe put on my phone and forced me not to change, breaks the silence in the atmosphere, and everyone looks at me. Without any hesitation, I retrieve the phone from my pocket, stared at the unfamiliar number before picking it up.
The caller chooses not to say anything, but I can hear the gentle breathing of whoever it is on the other end.
"Yeah?" I angrily snapped, having had enough of hearing nothing. "Who is this?"
"That's not what you should be concerned about," The caller replied monotonously.
I raise my brows, wordlessly daring the person to tell me what I should be concerned about if not their identity.
"I don't know who the fúck you are or what gave you the audacity to talk to me like that, but I really don't have time for your bullshÃt."
Whoever the caller is, they are obviously trying to get on my nerves by the sound of their voice. It sounds like they are playing with my distressed situation, and that can only mean one thing.
Deluxe is with them.
"Will you have time after I tell you that Deluxe Dominguez is here with me?"
I knew it!
I nodded at Derek, and he nodded at his technical man, who starts trying to trace the call after I put it on speaker.
"What are you talking about?" I forced my voice to sound doubtful.
"I know who she is to you, and I'm sure you would want to have her back in your arms. You just have to do one thing for me."
Whoever this person is, is definitely right about one thing - I want Deluxe back with me, right where she belongs, in my arms.
I stare at the technical man quizzically, mouthing to him, "Did you find anything?" He shakes his head and continues tapping on numerous buttons.
I hold in a tired sigh, brushing my fingers through my messy hair. I try to hold the conversation as long as possible and say, "You obviously don't know who you're talking to. I am Alexander Romano. I am not only the head of the Italian Mafia but also a very influential person in the business world." Pathetic but true words leave my mouth, and I make sure everything sounds like a promise. "If I find out my girlfriend is truly with you, you'll be deád."
The caller laughs. Literally, laughs out loud, clearly mocking me, totally unbothered by what I just said before humming. "I highly doubt that, but if it makes you feel better, you can think like that. I just need you to give me what I want."
My brain starts spiraling around who the caller could be. Neither the voice nor the accent sounds familiar, so I can't use that to draw a conclusion.
"You must really think I'm a fool, huh?"
"Aren't you?" The question makes me scoff as I think about how enjoyable it will be to kÃll whoever thought it wise to Ãnsult me. A feminine chuckle comes from their end, it was low but everyone around heard it. "I'll send you her picture in a minute, and that will prove it, right?"
Deluxe's mother furrows her brows, a thought obviously running through her head, and she whispers something to her husband who nods.
"Who are you? Who sent you? What do you want?" I pin my gaze on them and ask.
"Who I am is none of your business. Who sent me is also none of your business, Alexa. I want... you."
Alexa?
Wait.
Only one person has ever called me that, and if I remember correctly, it was a girl at a camp my mum begged my father to let me go to when I was fifteen.
What was her name again?
I hissed, massaging my temple with my two fingers, different names coming into my head, but it just isn't the right one.
"What?! My name is Alexander."
I'm sure it is a P name.
Paige?
Poppy?
Paloma?
Payton?
Phoebe!
A smile nearly spreads out on my face at my realization, but I don't let it. Instead, my brain starts spiraling again around why she would do something like this.
One, she isn't involved in the mafia. In fact, her dad works for the FBI. Two, she didn't look like she had any crimÃnal bone in her body when I last saw her.
Well, things can change. Something might have happened in those years, and I don't give a fúck what it is, but if I find her, I'll eñd her life.
"Just kidding. I want half a billion dollars, and I'll call you whatever I want." She says.
"I'm not doing that."
"You think I don't know that you're stalling and talking this much just to trace my location? You won't find it. I'm not stupid." My phone dings with a message notification, and when I check it, my heart drops to my feet. "Send the fuckÃng money, or she dÃes."
"Touch her, and you'll dÃe a very, very painful slow deà th that you'll beg for but won't get until I decide to give it to you. Let her go while I'm still being nice."
"You're never nice."
If I was doubtful or trying to convince myself otherwise that she isn't Phoebe, then this just proved me wrong.
"You're right. I hate being nice, especially with people like you. I don't believe the picture. Send me a video. Let me talk to her."
"No. Bye."
"Let go of me. Just let me go!" Deluxe's cries reach my ears faster than anyone else's, and more panic overwhelms our faces.
"I know her."
"I know where she is."
"I know her."
All three sentences are spoken simultaneously by Mrs. Dominguez, Damon, and me, and we all exchange shocked glances.
