THE MISTAKE OF MY MOTHER
The Mistake Of My Mother -Episode 4

She started whimpering with fright when they finally ran up to her.
Ahunli: “Please don’t hurt me. Please spare my life, I will give you whatever you want” she thought of how they were about to thwart her well laid out plan and began to beg even more desperately until the guys burst out into uncontrollable laughter. “What is so funny?” she asked despite herself and scanned the faces of the guys properly. One of them had begun to remove his cap. She stood up when she saw his face properly at last and lunged at him, fuming.
Olamide: “Easy babe. You might fall down again at this rate. Hope you did not hurt your ankle?” he bent down to inspect her legs when it looked like she was limping.
Ahunli: “Get your filthy hands off me you pretentious bastard. What exactly were you doing chasing after me like that? And you too Nonso, is it fair?” she bent down to inspect her toe which seemed to have been cut and bleeding.
Nonso: “Don’t be angry dear. We were just playing pranks on you. But hope you know how risky it is moving around at night like this? It could have been some other guys and what would you have done in that instance?”
Olamide: “She would have gone on her knees to beg of course. Please don’t hurt me, I will give you anything you want” he said mimicking her.
Ahunli: “Thanks Nonso” she ignored the object of her affection, she was still shaken but who wouldn’t be?”
Nonso: “It is fine. We are sorry too, it was a lame joke. Will get going now and get that leg treated” he said, cast a glance at her legs and walked away waving a goodbye at them.
Olamide: “Thanks guy!” he shouted after his retreating figure before turning back to her. “I guess it’s my house you are headed to?”
Ahunli: “Uhnuhn…I am headed to a mad man’s house for sure” she said and started walking towards the direction of his estate again. He did not utter a word to her anymore, neither did he try to lend her a helping hand seeing the way she was walking with difficulty. He just walked behind her, probably wondering if he would be able to do the stuffs they did on a daily bases that night with her injured leg.
When they got to the house, she dropped her bag and went straight for the bathroom, there, she had her bathe, cleaned the wound with the methylated spirit she saw in the bathroom and bandaged it. He seemed to be a big fan of first aid stuffs. Nothing was lacking in the box. She came out feeling refreshed and happier, knowing that nothing was getting in the way of her goals for that night. She wore the sexy nightie she brought along and joined him on the bed.
Ahunli: “You can’t even say sorry to me despite the fact that it was you who caused it all?”
Olamide: “Sorrry” he said curtly.
Ahunli: “Just like that? Well you didn’t have to say it when it wasn’t coming from your heart” she queried, a frown creasing her brow.
Olamide: “Okay now. Do you want to sleep or what?”
Ahunli: “Let’s play a game” she said, her eyes filled with excitement, the frown had long disappeared.
Olamide: “What game? You think you are still a child?”
Ahunli: “Well I just wanna play at least one game with you. Can’t we even do that?”
Olamide: “Okay!”
Ahunli: “It is a truth or dare game. If you refuse to do anything I ask you to do, you will down a bottle of beer. Same applies to me. So choose which you want, truth or dare?” she said excitedly like a kid who just won a trophy as the best athlete in a marathon.
Olamide: “Uhn! Sounds interesting, as long as drinking is the penalty then we are cool. Where are the bottles?”
She quickly ran off to the kitchen to check if there were chilled ones in the freezer. She wasn’t disappointed. She returned with five bottles of big stout.
Ahunli: “Okay truth or dare?”
Olamide: “Dare”
Ahunli: “I dare you to drink one bottle without stopping”she said giggling from ear to ear.
Olamide: “You call that a dare?” he scoffed, opened one bottle and downed its content without as much as a grunt. “Truth or dare?” he queried when he was done.
Ahunli: “Truth” she replied in a small voice, the excitement had been replaced with uncertainty.
Olamide: “Okay what is your name?”
Ahunli: “What? You call that a question? Nonsense guy” she said hitting his arm
Olamide: “Just answer jare”
Ahunli: “Ahunli! So truth or dare?”
Olamide: “Dare”
Ahunli: “Can’t you ask for truth? Whatever! I dare you to tell me you love me”

Olamide: “Is that a dare? Well I can’t tell you that” he said coolly, without as much as an emotion on his face.
Ahunli: “Good then, take another beer” she replied disappointedly even though she already knew he wasn’t going to say it.
They kept at this until he became quite tipsy and obviously high on adrenaline. He pulled her close and started fiddling with her nightie. She stopped him, reached for the condom she already had handy and handed it to him. He without a second thought tore it open and whoosh, the deed was done. She slept like a baby that night after praying it would work knowing that if it didn’t, she would have to wait for another month before she would have to give it a try again. She was so desperate to have me (her leverage) so she could have her man all to herself.

===
Two months later, she started feeling sluggish and dizzy for no apparent reason. Her energy level was like 20%. She knew without doubt that she was due for a pregnancy test and went for the best available option. She did a home pregnancy test and to her elation, it showed two red lines. She jumped for joy, knelt down thanking God for her blessing. She could not believe she was carrying his child at last. She reached for her bare tummy and caressed it fondly muttering to me as if I could understand what she was talking about. She quickly dialled his number and he picked up on the third ring; in her normal way, she asked him if she could go by the house that night and he agreed after much haranguing.
She did not bother waiting for him to get home, she got there earlier than she used to and had to wait for him at the gate. He was surprised when he saw her at the gate and wondered what was raging in her mind at that moment. From the look on his face, he must have known she had something pushing her towards ecstasy and was curious to know what it was or so she thought. He opened the gate since they had no gateman and drove in…
Ahunli: “Welcome back dear. How was work today?” she said when he alighted from his car and headed for his front door.
Olamide: “It was stressful but I thank God and yours?”
Ahunli: “I am on leave na. How many times will I tell you?”
Olamide: “Do you think that is what I use my head to think of? I have my job and lots of other stuffs to think about not your job” he said as he stepped into the sitting room since the door led directly to the sitting room. He dropped on the chair by his right hand side and started removing his shoes.
Ahunli: “Let me remove it for you” she said and bent down to help him remove the shoe but he wouldn’t have any of that.
Olamide: “No thank you. I can remove it by myself. So why couldn’t you wait before rushing down here knowing the time I come back? What if I had decided to hang out with the guys today leaving you to wait out there all by yourself?” he asked, becoming agitated.
Ahunli: “Well I already know you wouldn’t do a thing like that. You are a gentleman na and besides you wouldn’t do a thing like that to a woman carrying your baby ” she thought and smiled to herself.
Olamide: “Why are you smiling?”he queried, arching his brow in puzzlement.
Ahunli: “There is something I need to tell you but I don’t know how you will take it. Should I go ahead?” she asked, acting as innocent and fragile as she could.
Olamide: “Of course! Go ahead but you can still keep it to yourself if you want to” She knew he didn’t mean that.
Ahunli: “I am pregnant” she dropped the bombshell, and waited for his reaction, but it did not come.
Olamide: “Oh! Congratulations o. I am happy for you but why are you telling me? You should go sort it out with the father of the baby” he said and stood up to go drop his shoes inside.
Ahunli: “The baby belongs to you. At least you are the only one I’ve been having sex with since I came to this city” she said standing up after him.
Olamide: “That can never be possible” he said with conviction.
Ahunli: “Why not?”
Olamide: “Because I have never had sex with you without condoms. Even when I am as drunk as the drunken master, I still use condom. So get that thought out of your head and go look for the father of the innocent child” he thundered.
Ahunli: “Please don’t do this to me Olami” she started to weep when she realised her folly.
Olamide: “What do you mean by that? Are you going out of your mind? You got pregnant for another man and now you want to make me responsible for it? Are you f-----g crazy?” he yelled.
Ahunli: “You know condoms are not reliable. They can break or something” she ventured.
Olamide: “Oh hold it right there. I don’t use cheap ones and they have never broken before. I know what I am talking about. If you are done with you allegations, you can find your way out right? I hope you wouldn’t make me push you out?”he said pointing to the door.
Ahunli: “Oh my God! No, no, no please don’t do this please” she started wailing in earnest when it dawned on her that he meant what he was saying. She sat down in the sitting room while he went to freshen up. She heard the tap running and wondered if he would really throw her out. The thought of getting thrown out broke her heart to shreds and at that moment she thought she felt blood drip from her eyes in form of tears. “Should I tell him the truth about that night? How I became pregnant? Wouldn’t it make things even worse? ” she pondered on and on until she heard the bathroom door open. She shot to her feet, as she waited for heaven to fall…
