MORETTIS EMPIRE, AT THE DINING HALL*

The dining hall was anything but peaceful that morning.

The massive black oak table was already set with plates untouched, the food hot but silence didn’t stand a chance.

The first to enter was Ace, dressed in black from neck to boots. He sat at the head of the table.

Then came Blade, spinning a butterfly knife between gloved fingers as usual, a smirk dancing on his lips.

"Rise and shine, you deadly f+ks!" he chirped, plopping down beside Rocco. "Who’s dying today?"

Rocco grunted without looking up. "Hopefully you" he muttered, sipping his coffee black.

Storm walked in next, hoodie over his head. He didn’t speak, just sat down and pulled out a small circuit board, disassembling it like a bored genius.

Axe entered, dragging his steel weapon along the marble floor like a pet. "If anyone touches my bacon, I’ll split you in half" he growled, sitting heavily.

Viper arrived next. Her black leather clung to her curves as she sat across from Ace without a word. Everyone moved slightly away from her. Except Axe who winked but she ignored him.

Scarlett followed and sat near her.

Then came Sylvia and Rosa, side by side like shadows.

The door slammed.

VIxen entered last, in a sheer wine-red dress, lips painted to match. Her eyes locked instantly on Viper whose eyes was filled with venom.

"You’re in my seat" Vixen said.

Viper didn’t move, she leaned back slowly, one manicured finger tracing the rim of her wine glass.

"Didn’t see your name on it" Viper said coolly, lips barely curving.

"Still bitter, are we? Don’t tell me you’re still mad about the little incident that happened the other day. I thought you’d healed by now… emotionally and physically"

A smirk curled at Viper’s lips.

"Oh, I healed but the bullet I didn’t fire is still waiting"

Everyone was watching them now but didn't interfere.

"I see you’re still all bark" Vixen said, circling the table, dragging one finger along its polished surface as she passed. "Pretty. Deadly. But still so predictable"

"I see you’re still pretending you matter" Viper shot back, lifting her glass and taking a slow sip. "How’s your last mission? Oh wait… you failed"

Vixen stopped walking, then smirked.

"You wish I had"

Her eyes flicked to the others. "Ace? Scarlett? Rosa? Why don’t you tell dear Viper how we aced that mission?"

She turned back to Viper.

"Everyone knows the truth. Except you. Because, deep down, you want me to fail more than you want the empire to win"

Viper’s gaze burned but her lips were silent.

War was in the air.

And breakfast hadn’t even started.

"I understand how you feel though…" Vixen said, tone mockingly sympathetic. "I’d be mad too if the boss stopped sending me on missions"

Viper’s nostrils flared. "You call that cheap operation a mission? Please. Even a rookie could pull that off. I’m sent on real assignments... big, bloody, dangerous ones"

Vixen laughed, a smooth, unbothered sound. "Of course you are. Because you’ve got something to prove. Always have" She turned slightly, addressing no one in particular. "It must be exhausting, constantly competing with someone who’s not even trying"

That was the spark.

In one blink, Viper was on her feet. "Say that again"

Vixen didn’t flinch. "Why? Are your ears as fragile as your ego?"

Viper lunged, sending her chair clattering to the floor. Vixen didn’t hesitate as she blocked the first strike, grabbed Viper’s wrist, twisted it and shoved her back against the wall. But Viper wasn’t weak. She kicked Vixen's shin, dodged a blow and landed a punch across her shoulder. A wine glass shattered somewhere in the process.

The others just watched.

"Oh, I’m so glad I came down for breakfast" Blade muttered, leaning back with his arms folded like it was a live show. "Would’ve hated to miss this masterpiece"

Rosa giggled beside him, chewing her toast like popcorn. "Better than TV"

Scarlett rolled her eyes but didn’t intervene. Sylvia and Rocco watched with blank expressions, it's nothing new. Storm didn’t even look up from his circuit board.

"Ace, maybe do something?" Rosa said lightly, still smiling.

"Enough!" Ace’s voice thundered.

He stepped forward, grabbing both women by their shoulders and yanking them apart. Viper stumbled back, a bruise already forming on her upper arm. She hissed, glaring murderously at everyone.

"F+k you all" she snapped, snatching her jacket off the chair and storming out of the hall.

A heavy silence followed.

Vixen ran her fingers through her hair and calmly adjusted her dress like nothing happened.

Scarlett muttered under her breath, "Again with this drama…"

But no one said it aloud, though they all knew that Viper and Vixen were once inseparable best friends.

Until something fractured that bond beyond repair.

And now, they were sworn enemies sharing the same empire... and the same battlefield.

Storm, who had barely looked up once during the entire spectacle, calmly stood, his half-eaten plate of eggs pushed aside.

He slipped the small circuit board back into his pocket, adjusted the hood over his head, and gave the room one last unimpressed glance.

No words. No sigh. Just a quiet scoff as he muttered under his breath.

"Dysfunction before daylight… classic" He walked out slowly, hands in pockets.

The rest of the table sat in taut silence. Scarlett was glaring into her tea. Blade looked like he was holding back laughter. Sylvia and Rosa exchanged an unreadable, but knowing look.

Vixen dusted herself off, adjusting her dress with an effortless poise that only made the others stare. Unbothered. Victorious. Dangerous.

"That was a fun breakfast" she murmured with a dry smile.

MATTEO’S MANSION*

Aurora lay sprawled across the king-sized bed, the silk sheets a mess beneath her. One leg hung lazily off the edge, her phone tilted toward her face as soft arcade sounds echoed from the screen.

She was in her zone blasting digital zombies, half a lollipop stuck between her lips.

Matteo had left hours ago.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed breaking through her high score.

Unknown Number:

*Tell your husband to return the drive. Or watch what happens next.

Aurora blinked, confused for half a second.

"What the hell…?" she murmured, sitting upright.

She stared at the message.

No name. No follow-up. Just that cold warning.

She quickly typed back:

*Wrong number, psycho.

Within seconds, another buzz.

Unknown Number:

*You’re in Matteo Moretti's mansion.
White sheets. Phone in hand.
Still think it’s the wrong number?

Aurora’s heart skipped a beat.

She jumped off the bed instantly, her eyes darting to the corners of the room. The hairs on her neck stood. Whoever it was knew exactly where she was.

She dashed to the curtains completely forgotten about her wounded leg, yanking them shut. Her chest heaved.

Then the final message came.

Unknown Number:

*The drive from your last mission. Bring it to the abandoned metro tunnel near 46th. You have 48 hours. Or you won't like what happens next.

Aurora froze.

"What drive?" She wondered aloud.

Enzo’s call came through immediately but she ignored it, her mind on what the unknown number said.

MORETTIS EMPIRE, MATTEO’S OFFICE*

The heavy door creaked open.

Viper stepped in first and then Vixen followed, dressed in body-hugging silk with her signature glossed red lips and a diamond blade tucked in her thigh strap, she gave a faint smile.

At the center of the room stood Matteo, leaning against the edge of the table.

Neither woman dared speak.

Not yet.

Matteo raised his eyes slowly, meeting theirs with a gaze sharp enough to cut silence.

"I called both of you here because I need results" he said, voice calm… deadly calm.

Viper stood straighter. "Boss"

Vixen dipped her head slightly. "Sir"

Matteo tapped a tablet and swiped, projecting a file on the screen behind him. A suave older man appeared obviously in his early 50s, salt-and-pepper hair, billionaire status glowing through his Rolex and grin. His name: Giovanni Vecchio. A powerful financier with deep underworld ties and loose morals.

"He’ll be attending a private gala at Villa Rosetta in three nights, you’ll both be there"

He stepped forward slowly, gaze moving from Vixen to Viper.

"Sicilian royalty, corrupt judges, cartel bosses all in one place. But I only care about him"

He pointed at the screen.

"You will seduce him. Gain access to his offshore accounts. Drain every last euro. And make sure he never traces it back to us"

Viper’s lips twitched. "You want me and her playing nice?"

"We can be civil… for the right price"

"I didn’t ask for your feelings. I gave an order"

The silence that followed was heavy.

"You both hate each other. Good. Use it. But if you jeopardize this mission, I will not hesitate to burn you both out of my empire"

"Understood"

"It’ll be done" Vixen said.

Matteo turned and placed two thin, leather folders on the table.

"Your covers. Your identities. Your route in. The gala is crawling with eyes, and Vecchio is no fool. He’ll be expecting seduction, not betrayal. That’s where you come in"

He looked directly at Vixen. "He likes them soft and s+×y"

Then to Viper. "He likes them dangerous"

The two ladies glanced at each other bitterly.

"You’ll leave at dawn" Matteo said.

No one moved.

"Dismissed"

Vixen turned, brushing her fingers against the folder without looking back. Her heels made no sound.

Viper followed, slower, her stare lingering on Matteo a beat longer.

"Is there anything you want me to do for you boss?" She suddenly asked, turning back to him.

"Get out!"

Viper’s chest rose, her lips parted like she wanted to say more.

But she didn't.

She shut the door behind her.

Matteo slipped on his tailored black coat, buttoned only at the center, and grabbed the silver key fob from the edge of the desk before leaving the office.

MATTEO’S MANSION, 30 MINUTES LATER*

The distant rumble of an engine broke through the silence.

Moments later, tires screeched against the gravel driveway.

He stormed inside like a brewing storm with jacket half off, jaw clenched, eyes burning with something wild. He didn’t pause to speak to anyone, he moved like a man possessed.

Up the marble stairs. Two at a time till he got to his room.

Aurora stood near the window, arms folded tight across her chest, lost in thought until she heard the door fly open.

She turned, startled, heart leaping to her throat.

"Matteo—?"

Before she could say another word, he was in front of her.

He didn’t speak.

He just grabbed her.

And kissed her.

Hard. Like very hard.

His hand tangled in her hair, the other gripping her waist as he pulled her against him like he had been starving for this, for her, for the taste of something only she could give.

Aurora gasped into the kiss, her fists pressed against his chest for a moment before melting, fingers clutching the fabric of his shirt like it was the only thing grounding her.

His mouth left hers briefly, just long enough to whisper hoarsely against her lips:

"I couldn't stop thinking about you, piccolina"

Her breath hitched. "Matteo—"

He kissed her again, cutting off whatever she was going to say.

Like silence was safer than truth.

Like kissing her was the only way to keep himself from breaking.

She gasped louder, her hands gripping his shoulders, unsure whether to push him away or pull him closer.

But then—

RIP!

The sound of her top tearing echoed in the room, fabric parting like it was never meant to be there.

Aurora gasped sharply, her chest rising and falling.

Matteo’s eyes burned as they roamed over her exposed skin.

His mouth found her neck, trailing kisses laced with fire. She whimpered softly, her hands sliding up into his hair unconsciousnessly, tilting her head to give him more.

His jacket hit the floor.

Then her back met the wall again, his body pressed against hers, pinning her there with heat and want.
