Everyone was already seated at the dining table, waiting for Nathan and his special guests, when the doorbell rang.
"I guess they're here," Josh said, looking up from his phone.
"I don't think so. Nathan never rings the bell. This is his house," Anna replied, raising an eyebrow.
"I'll get the door," Mrs. Adams said happily, getting up from her seat. She moved to open the door, revealing Diva's enchanted smile.
"You're here," she exclaimed, pulling Diva into a warm hug.
"Did I make it on time?" Diva asked as they pulled away from each other.
"Yeah," Mrs. Adams replied, taking Diva's hand and leading her inside. "Hey, everyone, look who we have here," she announced, and they turned to their direction, surprised to see Diva.
"Hi, everyone," Diva said, waving slightly.
"Diva?" Anna called out, surprised.
"Come on, let's join them," Mrs. Adams said, leading Diva to the dining table. As they sat down
"How are you doing, dear?"Mr. Adams asked warmly
"I'm fine, Dad,"
"Hey, Diva, I didn't know you'd be joining us for dinner," Anna said.
"Um..." Diva started to explain, but Mrs. Adams cut in.
"I invited her," she said, and they were surprised. "It's been a long time since I've seen her, and Nathan has refused to do the right thing by bringing her over," she added, and Diva blushed.
"You can't blame him, Mom. He's always busy," she said, defending Nathan.
"Hmm, now you're taking sides with him," Mrs. Adams said jokingly, and they chuckled while the rest stared at them in confusion.
"By the way, where is he? Isn't he joining us for dinner?" Diva asked, looking around the table.
Meanwhile, Nathan drove Mia into the compound and parked in the garage. Mia, seated in the front seat, looked anxious, fidgeting with her hands.
"We're here," Nathan said, smiling as he turned to her and saw her nervousness. "What's wrong?" he asked, taking her hands firmly in his.
"I'm nervous," she replied.
"Don't be,This isn't the first time you're meeting my family".
"I...I..,"she stuttered.
"Stop talking," Nathan said, kissing her forehead. "I'm right here with you. There's no need to be nervous, okay?"
"Okay," she nod,, letting out a sigh of relief.
"Good," Nathan said, getting out of the car and moving to the other side to open the door for her.
As she stepped out, he closed the door, and she wrapped her hand around his arm, feeling a sense of security with him by her side. They walked into the house together, the aroma of delicious food filling the air.
Diva and Mrs. Adams were still engrossed in their conversation while the rest watched them quietly. Nathan and Mia entered, and everyone turned to their direction, surprised to see Mia. They were also shocked to see Diva, who was sitting with a confident smile on her face.
"Nathan," Diva called out, smiling brightly as she rushed to hug him, pushing Mia away from him slightly.
Mia pushed a little away from them, her face bowed slightly to the ground, feeling a bit awkward. Nathan managed to wiggle out of Diva's embrace.
"What are you doing here, Diva?" he asked, his tone neutral.
"Well, your mom invited me over," Diva said, her eyes sparkling with amusement, and Nathan was surprised as he looked at his mom.
"Son, is she the guest you were bringing over?" Mr. Adams asked, trying to kill the tension in the room with a warm smile.
Nathan moved away from Diva and moved to Mia, holding her hand as he led her to the dining table.
"Yes, she's the special guest I was telling you guys about," he said, smiling proudly.
"It's so nice to meet you again, Mia," Anna said, smiling warmly, and Mia returned the smile and bowed slightly to Mr. Adams.
"You're welcome, dear. Please, take a seat," Mr. Adams offered, and Nathan pulled out a chair for her to sit.
"You're welcome, Mia," Josh said, grinning at her.
"Thank you," Mia smiled, feeling a bit more at ease.
Diva moved to the dining table and stood next to Nathan, her eyes fixed on Mia with a mixture of curiosity and annoyance.
"I didn't know you were this close to her," Diva said, sarcasm.
"Yes, I am," Nathan replied, his tone firm.
"Son, can I have a word with you privately?" Mrs. Adams said, sounding serious as she stood up and walked away from the dining table. Nathan followed her.
"Why did you invite Diva here?" Nathan asked, his voice firm as he faced his mother.
"Why did you bring that girl here?" his mother countered, her eyes flashing with annoyance.
"Mom, she's my guest."he sighed, feeling a headache coming on.
"What guest? What's going on between you and that girl? If what I'm assuming is true, then you must be joking," his mother said.
"What are you talking about?" Nathan asked, his patience wearing thin.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about. There's only one woman I accept into this family, and that's Diva. No one else," his mother said, her anger escalating.
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Nathan standing alone in the hallway. He sighed and waited for a while before he moved to join them at the dining table.
"Is everything okay?" Diva asked, noticing the look on their faces. Mrs. Adams smiled at her.
"Mia," he called, and she stood up quickly, moving to his side. He intertwined his hands with hers, making everyone see. "I have something to say to everyone here," Nathan began. "I actually organized this dinner for it, but it seems it won't be happening anymore."
"What's going on, Nathan?" Diva asked,
"Mia here is my fiancée now," Nathan announced. "She's the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with."
The room fell silent, with everyone surprised, including Mia, who hadn't expected him to reveal their relationship so suddenly.
"What did you just say?" Mrs. Adams asked, her voice trembling with anger.
"Exactly what you heard, Mom," he replied firmly. "I'm in love with this woman here."
"Nathan," Diva called out, tears filling her eyes.
"Wow, bro, congratulations!" Anna and Josh exclaimed in unison.
"Never! I won't accept her," Mrs. Adams yelled, her face red with rage. Mia looked taken aback by her outburst.
"I don't need your support, Mom," He said calmly and turned to Diva, who was sobbing quietly. "Diva, I'm sorry to break this to you. We can't happen. I only see you as a friend and nothing more. The fake engagement between us, I want to put an end to it and hope you understand."
Diva's face contorted in anger, and she stood up, landing a hot slap across Nathan's face.
"How dare you!" she shouted, her voice echoing through the room. "You dare choose this wretched thing over me?" Diva spat, her eyes blazing with anger.
"Diva, please calm down and let's settle this," Mr. Adams said, trying to intervene.
"There's nothing to settle, Dad," Diva said, her voice rising. "What did I do wrong that he has to treat me this way? My only crime here is falling in love with him." She turned to Mia, her anger boiling over. "And you! Your sister didn't only steal my brother away from his fiancée, and now you want to steal mine."
"My sister didn't steal your brother away from his fiancée," Mia said calmly. "She's not to be blamed for what happened."
"Will you shut up!" She raised her hand to slap Mia, but Nathan caught her hand quickly.
"Don't you dare, Diva!" Nathan said, his voice firm as he pushed off her hand, taking Diva by surprise. "You can hit me as you want, but don't you dare lay a finger on her, not ever!" His eyes flashed with anger.
"Nathan, I want this lady out of my house!" Mrs. Adams yelled.
"There's no need, Mom," Nathan said. "We were just leaving."
With that, he turned and left with Mia, leaving Diva sobbing on the chair. Mr. Adams stood up and left, while Anna and Josh watched the scene before them, unsure of what to do.
As Nathan and Mia entered the car, he started the engine and drove out, Mia sighing guiltily.
Along the driveway, Nathan made a phone call to Alex, connecting it to Bluetooth. It rang for a while before it was picked up, and Mia watched him, seeing the anger look on his face.
"Hey, man, why are you interrupting my date?" Alex said from the other end of the phone.
"I'm sorry," Nathan replied. "Are you two still at the restaurant?"
"Yes, why?"
"I'm coming over," he said. "Dinner at my house was a mess."
"Oh, hope you and Mia are okay?"
"Yes, we'll be right there shortly," Nathan said, and they hung up.
"I'm sorry about the dinner," Mia said sadly. "It's my fault it got ruined."
Nathan pulled over from the road, and before she could react, he leaned his face closer and kissed her softly on the lips. Mia's heart skipped a beat as she felt his warm lips on hers.
After what seemed like a minute, he pulled away from her slowly, locking eyes with her as he caressed her face.
"Don't ever blame yourself for what happened," he said, his voice filled with affection. "The only offense you committed was stealing my heart." They smiled at each other, the tension dissipating. "Don't think about what my mom said," he continued. "You are the one I choose, and I will choose you in my next life."
"I love you, Nathan," she said, her voice emotional.
"I love you more," he replied, his eyes sparkling with adoration. He kissed her forehead, holding her close for a moment.
Then, he started the car and zoomed off, the wind rushing past them as they drove away from the drama that had unfolded at his house. The silence between them was comfortable, filled with the promise of a new beginning.
