Mia emerged from the bathroom after freshening up and moved to close the window. Her eyes caught Nathan outside, resting on his car while dialing a number on his phone. Her cell phone rang, and she rushed to see it was a strange number. She wondered if it could be Nathan.
"Hello?" she said on the phone, and Nathan's voice came from the other end.
"Hey," he said.
"Nat?" she exclaimed, rushing back to the window. "What are you doing here?" she asked.
"Can you come out? I came to see you," he said before hanging up.
Mia sighed and rushed out of the room to meet him outside. She gulped nervously, staring around the neighborhood to see if anyone was watching.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"Let's talk somewhere," he said, grabbing her hand and leading her to his car. He entered and zoomed off.
Some minutes later, they arrived at the amusement park station. As they stepped out, Mia's eyes widened in amazement. The place was filled with lights and people moving around, holding hands with their partners.
"Wow," she breathed, her eyes sparkling with wonder.
Nathan smiled and took her hand, his touch sending a flutter through her chest. Mia was surprised by the gesture, but she didn't pull away.
"Let's go," he said, leading her into the vibrant atmosphere of the amusement park.
As they strolled around, Mia tried to hide the emotions swirling in her heart. After a while, they sat down on a bench, surrounded by the lively sounds of laughter and music.
"Do you like it here?" Nathan asked, his eyes locked on hers.
"Yes, it's amazing," Mia replied, "but why did you bring me here?"
"Because I really want to talk to you," He said, his voice low and serious. "I want you back at the company."
Mia hesitated, her mind racing with conflicting thoughts.
"Can we not bring that up anymore?" she asked, hoping to steer the conversation in a different direction.
"Why not?" He pressed on. "You don't want to give me a reason why you decided to resign?"
Mia sighed and stood up, backing away from him slightly.
"I have my reasons," she said, her voice firm but guarded.
Nathan stood up behind her, his presence looming large.
"Tell me," he urged, his voice gentle but insistent. "Is it because of me?" he asked, his words sending a shiver down her spine. "Am I making you uncomfortable?"
Mia turned to face him, and her breath caught as she realized how close he was. She took a step back, her heart racing fast.
"Um," she gulped, "This isn't because of you, and it has nothing to do with anyone. I just decided on my own."
"Why don't I believe that?" he said, drawing closer to her. Mia tried to step back, but he caught her by the waist and pulled her closer into his arms. She gulped hard, feeling a rush of emotions. "Don't run away from me," he whispered, his breath tickling her ear.
"Can you let me go? Someone might get the wrong impression of us," she said, trying to sound calm.
"I don't care. I'm not letting you go until you promise to come back to the company."his grip on her tightened.
"Why are you doing this? Why do you want to put me in trouble? I don't want to work with you anymore. Please, just understand," she said, sadly.
"Then make me understand. Did anyone threaten you?" he asked, firmly.
"No one did," She replied, shaking her head. "I just decided that on my own."
"I want you back," he said, his voice filled with emotion. "How many signals do you need to know I want you close? Please, for my sake, come back. Your presence means a lot to me."
Her heart skipped a beat at his words. She took a deep breath
"Okay, fine. If I agree to come back, can you keep a distance? Can you stop pulling me closer like this? Can we build a staff and boss relationship? Can we not get closer like this?"
His face went still, and he hesitated, clearly torn.
Some hours later, Nathan drove Mia back home. As they arrived, Mia got out of the car and bid him goodnight, hurrying back inside. She locked the door behind her and leaned against it, feeling her heart beating rapidly.
Meanwhile, Nathan leaned his head back against the seat in his car and let out a deep sigh, thinking about Mia's request earlier at the amusement park. After a few minutes, he started the engine and drove off into the night.
The next morning, Alex was staring at Naomi, who was sleeping peacefully on the bed in front of him. He remembered the previous night when Naomi had woken up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. After using the bathroom, she had found her way back to the bed with sleepy eyes and lay down beside him.
Naomi murmured softly in her sleep and opened her eyes weakly. She noticed someone in front of her, and her eyes were blurry. She closed them and opened them again to meet Alex's smiling face.
"Good morning," he said. "Did you sleep well?"
Naomi's eyes widened in surprise, and she jumped up from the bed quickly.
"What happened? How did I end up in the bed?" she asked, looking confused.
"What's wrong? You did nothing wrong sleeping on the bed."
"I...I remember sleeping on the couch last night."
"Yeah, you actually came to sleep on the bed last night," he explained. "I guess you were sleepwalking. But it's okay. You slept more comfortably than on the couch."
"I'm sorry," she said.
"You did nothing, stop apologizing."
Naomi sighed, still looking a bit disoriented.
Some hours later, Naomi was in her mother's room, on a phone call with Mia after she was done attending to Alex for the day.
"How is it going in the palace?" Mia asked from the other end of the phone.
"Going well for now," Naomi replied.
"Is Alex's wound healing?" Mia asked.
"Yes, it's getting better than before. Just a few more days with him, and I'll be home,"
"That's good... I have something to tell you".
"What is it?".
"Are you alone in the room? Check if anyone is eavesdropping," Mia said, her voice low.
Naomi stood up and observed her surroundings before returning to the room. "No, it's clear. What is it?"
"Nathan came by the house..." Mia started talking, and Naomi paid close attention to her words.
Meanwhile, Queen Lala was taking a nap in her room when a knock came, and one of the maids entered.
"Your Majesty, you sent for me," the maid said.
"Call Naomi for me," the queen ordered without looking at her. The maid bowed and walked away.
In the kitchen, Mrs. Ruth was preparing a meal with the help of some maids when Alex came over, smiling, and picked an apple from the cabinet.
"Hey, Nanny, how's it going?" he asked, and they turned to him with a bow.
"How are you doing, Your Highness?" Mrs. Ruth asked.
"Good as new... Have you seen Naomi? I didn't see her in the room when I woke up,"
"Um, she..." Mrs. Ruth started to say, but before she could finish, the maid who was sent by the queen to call Naomi stepped forward and bow to Alex before turning to Mrs.Ruth.
"Please, Nanny, do you know where your daughter is? The queen requests her presence in her room," the maid said.
"Why? For what?" Alex asked, curiously.
"I don't know, Your Highness. She asked me to call her," the maid replied.
"She is in the room talking on the phone with her sister," Mrs. Ruth said.
"I will go..." The maid started to say, but Alex interrupted her.
"Don't bother, go tell my mom she's with me," Alex said, and the maid bowed and walked away.
"Please, Your Highness, I don't want my daughter to get into another trouble. You know it's a curse to ignore the queen's call," Mrs. Ruth said, looking worried.
"Let me deal with that. Don't worry about it," he said, smiling reassuringly, and walked away.
Naomi was still engrossed in her phone call with Mia, unaware of the queen's summons.
"Do you suggest I go back?" Mia asked.
"If he agrees to the conditions you gave him, then you're free to go back," Naomi replied.
"I won't lie to you, sis, I miss that place so much," Mia said, her voice filled with longing.
"Then go back. I'm sure everything will be fine. You just have to keep your distance and not get too close to him," Naomi advised. Mia sighed audibly on the other end of the phone.
"But what about you? Aren't you planning on going back to Alex's company?"
"I don't think so. My case is different from yours. Going back is like living in hell. I don't want to ignite the hatred the queen has for me more. I'll find another job. I know it will take time, but I'll keep searching."
Just then, Naomi's mother entered the room, looking worried. "Naomi," she called softly.
Naomi turned to her mother while still on the phone with Mia.
"Mom, is everything okay? You look worried."
"Is Mom okay?" Mia asked from the phone.
"I don't think so," Naomi replied, placing the phone on speakerphone. Her mother rushed to sit next to her on the bed.
"Naomi, you have to go see the queen," her mother said urgently. "She ordered the maid to call you, but Alex has refused for you to go. You know what happened when one ignores the queen's summons."
"What?" she said.
"Why will the queen summon you? You're not working there in the palace," Mia said from the phone, her voice puzzled.
"I don't know," Mrs. Ruth replied, "I'm worried she might take it the wrong way. Please just go see her and find out what she wants."
Naomi sighed, looking confused and torn.
