Nathan sat at the bar, lost in thought, nursing his drink. He had called Alex to meet him here, and soon after, Alex arrived and joined him.
As they shook hands, Alex ordered a drink for himself.
"What happened? You hardly come here," Alex said, taking a sip of his drink.
"I just needed to clear my head." He said, looking somber
"Why?"
"She resigned." He gulped his drink, his eyes clouded with worry.
"She did? Why?"
"I don't know. She won't tell me."
"Well, mine resigned too. My mom and sister went to the company to do the worst."
"Really?" Alex nodded.
"I just don't know what to do anymore."
The two friends sat in silence for a moment, each lost in their own thoughts.
"I kissed her." He spoke up and Alex turned to him quickly, surprise etched on his face.
"You what?" Alex asked, his voice rising in surprise.
"Yes, I kissed her. I just don't know, but it feels like I've wanted to do that for a long time."
"After that, what happened?"
"She ran off."
"Oh, you didn't tell her at that moment?"
"Tell her what?"
"Your first meeting with her when you were still kids. Don't you think she'd remember if you'd told her?"
"She didn't remember me. I don't think she'll ever will."
"Seriously, how sure are you that she's the little girl?"
"I know. The connection is still there. When we bumped into each other at the palace, I felt the same spark I felt when I first met her."
"Oh, but why can't she remember it's you?"
"I don't think she would. It was dark in the warehouse, and I don't think she saw my face when she saved me that night."
He nodded slowly, taking another gulp of his drink. "How did it feel when you kissed her?" he asked.
"How did it feel? Why are you asking as if you haven't kissed before?"
Alex sighed and gulped his drink, his eyes avoiding Nathan's gaze.
"I really don't know how it feels. I know I've kissed Elora a dozen times. I just don't..." He trailed off.
"You don't experience the range of sensations and emotions or feelings of connection and affection when you two people kiss?"
Alex sighed and continued pouring himself more drink, his movements slow and deliberate.
"I don't want to continue with this engagement anymore. I just want it to end. I don't feel the spark, the sensation with her. I tried to open up my heart to do so, but I just can't."
"I don't want to hurt anyone in this. I just want to follow what my heart wants..."He gulped his drink, his eyes welling up with emotion. "I'm just like an empty jar needed to be filled up with affections, sensations, feelings, and emotions." He sniffs.
"You just have to let it out, stop forcing your heart to accept what it doesn't want...I told you before, there's no love in your eyes when you're with Elora, but I see it when you're with Naomi. You have that deep affection for her. She's the affection, the feelings, the emotions that are needed to fill that empty jar." He said and placed a consoling hand on Alex's shoulder, "I'll advise you to go after your heart. It's not bad if you break the family tradition for once. This is your happiness we're talking about."
"I don't want to get her into trouble. She's been through a lot since she was a kid. I don't want to keep making her get into trouble because of me. I just want her to always be happy. My heart bleeds when I see her in pain." He said sadly as He gulped his drink, his voice cracking with emotion.
"It's so sad that we're making the women we care about suffer. All I want is to turn that sad and scary face into a happy one. I always feel a pinch in my heart when I see her like that...When I kissed her, I never wanted to stop. I was trying so hard not to lose control. I just don't want her out of my sight. Her presence around me makes me feel alive."
Nathan's words hung in the air, filled with longing and vulnerability.
For some minutes, Alex and Nathan continued chatting, drinking, and pouring out their feelings. As the night wore on, they became increasingly dizzy, but they never stopped drinking.
"I want to see her. I want to hug her and tell her, I will make things right," Alex slurred, staring drunkenly at the empty glass in his hand.
Meanwhile, at home, Naomi and Mia were in the room. Mia sat beside Naomi, who was busy making a portrait of Nathan.
"Wow, I just wish I could draw like you," Mia said, admiring Naomi's skill. Naomi smiled.
"I can teach you if you want," she offered.
"Nah, drawing isn't my thing." They both chuckled.
Just then, thunder clapped, and the wind began to blow.
"It looks like it's going to rain," Naomi said.
"Yeah, wish we could play in the rain like we used to when we were kids,"
"Yeah, we can try that next time." She continued working on her portrait.
Mr. Daniels sat alone in the living room, lost in thought about the encounter he had with the person he called the other day. Just as the rain started dropping, someone knocked on the door.
Mr. Daniels wondered who it could be at this time of night. He stood up weakly and made his way to the door. To his greatest surprise, he saw Alex and Nathan holding each other up, trying not to fall.
"Your Highness?" Mr. Daniels called out in surprise as Alex and Nathan smiled drunkenly at him.
"Hi, Uncle," they chimed in unison.
Mr. Daniels quickly moved to help them inside and shut the door behind them. They collapsed onto the chair, looking dazed.
"What happened to you guys?" Mr. Daniels asked.
Alex's words were slurred ."I want to see Naomi... Please, call Naomi." He insisted.
Mr. Daniels headed to the girls' room and knocked. Mia rushed to open the door.
"Dad, we heard someone knock on the door. Who is it at this time of night?" Mia asked.
"Well, I guess you ladies may want to see this."
Mia and Naomi exchanged curious glances and followed their father to the living room. Their jaws dropped as they took in the sight of the two drunk men resting on each other.
"Alex?" Naomi called out in surprise.
"Nat?" Mia echoed.
"I don't know what happened to them. They're heavily drunk. You ladies can take it from here." He bid them goodnight and left for his room.
Naomi and Mia stared at each other, then turned to the drunk men.
"What are we going to do?" Mia asked.
"Why are they here?" Naomi wondered.
Just then, Nathan and Alex opened their eyes weakly and met the ladies' gazes. They broke into smiles and rushed to hug their respective loves. The ladies were shocked as the men wrapped their arms around them.
"I miss you," Nathan said, holding tight to Mia.
"Why did you leave?" Alex asked, his voice filled with longing as he held Naomi close. The ladies were dumbfounded.
After some moments, the ladies managed to wiggle out from the men's arms and helped them sit carefully on the chair.
"I'll get them water," Mia said and headed to the kitchen.
She returned with two glasses of water and helped the men sip from them.
"Should we leave them here?" Naomi asked, looking around the living room.
"Yeah, we only have two rooms here, and this is more comfortable for them to sleep on," Mia replied. "Let me get the blankets."
Mia left for the room and returned with two blankets. She handed one to Naomi, and they carefully covered the men.
"I just hope we don't get into trouble because of this," Naomi said.
"Yeah."
With the men settled, the ladies turned and headed to their room, leaving the two drunk friends to sleep on the couch.
