KASARACHI
Kasarachi - Episode 46
(Tell it to God)
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
Well it wasn't a dream this time around. It is my reality and a beautiful one at that.
A few distance away from where I was standing, there was a projector that lit up.
On the screen was shown an interior photo of a boutique whose inside is filled with dozens of clothes, bags, and shoes.
The second slide after that, showed a zoomed picture of an open property document and I saw my name boldly written on the paper in blue ink. Obviously, the property is the land in which the boutique's building had been erected on.
The slide moved into the last one and it showed a certificate of business registration with my name boldly written on it as well.
The only thing that was missing on the certificate of business registration and property document is my signature which needs to be signed personally by me. Every other vital detail is intact as it should be.
Alex doesn't know some things about me enough to register a business in my name. Nor did he know that I have intentions of accepting his proposal that will warrant him organizing an engagement ceremony.
This only means one glaring thing! which is, that mama certainly has a hand in this entire arrangement from start to finish.
She is the one who surely informed Alex before today that I am going to be saying 'yes' to his marriage proposal. Mama must have also known about his planned gift and so she supplied Alex with all the details he needed to successfully pull this through.
I'm also very sure she kept all of this as a secret away from me probably because the master planner Alex had asked her to.
For how long they've planned this, I don't know. All I do know is that I am extremely overjoyed and swept off my feet by this well executed surprise gift from Alex.
My God! I haven't even accepted his ring yet and he is already doing so much for me by registering and buying me a business outlet.
Who does that....? I mean what if I end up changing my mind about accepting him....?
Chai! He must really trust me very much to do this regardless of the risks involved.
I didn't even recover from this other surprise when the bright light of the stage went out and this completely grabbed my attention as to what could be wrong.
It came on again but this time with a dim blue light and a sparkling design on the wall "please will you marry me Kasarachi Arinze?"
There is also Alex bent on one knee in front of the stage and he was urging me with his hands to come forward and join him.
Everyone sitting there took the cue from Alex and they started clapping their hands as a ginger for me to walk to the stage.
I was too emotional to move from where I stood. Tears were just flowing from my eyes as I looked at Alex on one bended knee.
This same man after my heart was holding a ring and stretched it out to me while using his other hand to urge me to move closer.
I cleaned the tears flowing from my eyes and tried my best to stop crying so I couldn't be teased by Alex as a crybaby after the event.
Before moving from where I was standing, I first turned to look at where Osinachi was sitting and I met her smiling at me lovingly.
Later, I turned to look at Mama only to meet her nodding her head reassuringly at me and from her lips movement, I could tell she was saying 'congratulations'.
I took my eyes away from mama and in a few minutes, I began to sharply scan the faces of all the people that are gathered in this place today for my engagement party.
I could recognize some and majority of them I didn't know who they were but from their outfits/costumes, I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me that they are rich and influential people specially invited by Alex.
For me, I think this particular one is the most exciting and unbelievable thing about today.
Ah! never in my wildest imaginations did I ever think that there would come a day whereby; people whose social status and influence I do not measure up to, would be invited to a gathering just for my sake!
My eyes watered again and I became deeply emotional for the second time since I came inside here to witness this fascinating scene.
Inwardly, I had to ask God questions as to who am I to deserve his unending goodness, favour, grace, mercies, blessings, and now it's honor from men of caliber.....?
My God! Is this really me Kasarachi Arinze who was left for disgrace and almost pushed into an early miserable marriage....?
If not for the decision I made years ago not to marry early, today I would have probably been married to a village man and turned into a baby making machine as a young girl.
Who also knows if by now, I would have been selling crayfish and pepper in the market as a woman who didn't finish secondary school before marriage....?
Only God knows if I would have bagged any certification or properties in my name or it would have been the opposite.
Just maybe I would have been looking haggardly in the village due to poor maintenance and thereafter I will feed from hands to mouth with numerous children.
The worst outcome would have been to be thrown out of my husband's house if I was not able to birth male children for Mazi Kalu, that old man whom they wanted to marry me off to.
Nobody knows if maybe after that failed marriage, I would have been freely tossed from one man to the other by a selfish and self-centered uncle Okafor who obviously wanted to ruin my future for money.
What if I married Ekene or his brother Nonso who contrary to what I initially thought, they had no good intentions towards me.
If I still went ahead to marry one of them after hearing those words they said, I know that today I would have been a divorcee or made to be very miserable in marriage.
Thank God I found out on time that they never in any way loved, regarded or valued me. I was there when Ekene and Nonso said it themselves, that to them, I was simply a cheap commodity that's to be used for fun and thereafter treated or discarded as trash.
There are so many what ifs on my mind and honestly the repercussions of those decisions on my future self would have been extremely bad and sadly irreversible.
That's why I can't help thanking God for showing me mercy and for giving me the strong willpower to stand on my decision. Also for smoothening my path despite all the obstacles I encountered on the way.
I'm equally thankful to God for giving me a loving mother who didn't hate me or was eager to sell me off for money. Well, I do read stories about some bad and selfish mothers who hate their biological children, so I know it happens in real life scenarios.
Oh, I can only imagine what could have been my fate if I had a self-centered mother who loved money more than her children.
I'm sure there's no way to have escaped not being bundled to Mazi Kalu's house for sex and marriage no matter my resistance.
Except maybe I ran away from home, which had not even crossed my mind at that time because of the many dangers involved.
As I reminisce about everything I went through before I could witness today, I couldn't stop thanking God in my heart for not allowing me to ruin my future.
I'm also thankful to God for the numerous times I thought I knew what was best for me and tried going against his will, but He still looked upon me with mercy and found ways to save me from making terrible mistakes that would have marred me.
My God has been faithful to me because I know that not many would have survived the unpleasant things that I went through, yet He still kept me alive to witness today.
Yes, many would say that my willpower is part of the reason I didn't give up but I also know that it wasn't necessarily by my strength alone. Instead, it is mainly by the divine mercy of my redeemer who never sleeps or slumbers when watching over me.
This made the christian song 'mercy said no' sung by Cece Winans to ring a bell in my heart. Indeed! God's mercy spoke for me so many times than I can recount in a day.
I snapped out of my thoughts when the claps from people became louder. I suppose they are wondering what is still keeping me rooted to this same spot I am standing.
If only they knew that I am reminiscing about how far my Lord has brought me, then they wouldn't blame me for taking this long to specially thank Him for my life.
Finally, I gathered the courage to move forward amidst the emotional state that I was in.
I wiped my tears making my face effortlessly lit up with a genuine smile.
Slowly and slowly, I walked towards the stage until I reached the exact spot Alex was kneeling and I stopped right in front of him.
Alex smiled and he began speaking out sweet words that melted my heart the more.
"From the very first day I had set my eyes on you in Aunty Ify's shop, my subconscious mistook you to be one of the fallen angels of centuries ago. Ah, your intoxicating beauty captivated me before I even got the inner conviction from God that you are the woman for me. Before leaving the shop that day, I made a decision that I was going to get to know you and if our values align, then I am going to follow God's will by marrying you immediately. Kasarachi, I've gathered everyone here because I found out that our values aligned and that you are one woman I never want to live without. I love you and that's why I am on my knees today asking you this question for the second time. Please Kasarachi Arinze, will you be my wife...?" Alex said smiling while looking at me.
I was smiling from ear to ear by the time Alex concluded his words. Oh, how I love this man who won my heart! and it seems like he knows exactly how to effortlessly get me to smile unceremoniously.
I repeatedly shook my head in the affirmative as I stretched forth my left finger. I also kept shouting my answer to his hearing and that of everyone present there.
"Yes! Yes! Yes! I will be your wife Alexander Ikechuckwu. I will marry you because I love you too and I cannot imagine living a life without you as well. Please my future husband, insert the ring into my finger"
I can't believe I said the last part, I was overexcited with all the beautiful moments.
Alex smiled warmly as he gently held my outstretched hand and then he slipped the shiny gold ring into my engagement finger.
After doing that, Alex stood up to his feet.
While still holding my hand, he kissed me on my forehead amidst the claps and shouts of jubilations from people sitting to watch us.
"Thank you my love for accepting my proposal. For saying yes to me, I've got an engagement gift for you. It is now your new business outlet, brought and registered in your name. It is also fully stocked with bags, clothes, and shoes for whenever you want to resume working there. Here is the key!" Alex said with a smile as he dangled a key in my face and gently placed it on my palm.
I was giggling as I told Alex thank you very much and then I raised up the key given to me for all the people gathered to see. The moment I did that, the collective claps and joyful shouts from them increased.
Soft music began blasting loudly from the speakers that were erected there.
People were already getting on their feet ready to dance to the tune of the music, when Alex signaled to a man on the stage to pause the music and to bring a microphone for him.
I was looking at Alex skeptically while wondering what he wanted to announce that couldn't wait until the dance was over.
When Alex collected the mic, I didn't have to wait for long to hear what he had to say.
"....on this note, I would also love to use this medium to announce that I am marrying my woman by next month. The exact date is what I don't know yet because I want my babygirl to be the one to choose all the dates for our traditional, church, and court marriage"
My face broke into a cute smile immediately when I heard Alex call me his babygirl. My husband-to-be is just so romantic that it gets me wondering how our first wedding night as a couple will be.
Would I enjoy our marriage consummation or would it be as painful as people say it is....?
Funny enough, I'm yet to tell him that I am a virgin because he was never asked about my sexual history. He also hasn't told me anything about his own sexual history yet.
All the same, I have already concluded within me that whether he is an Odogwu in bedmatics matters or not, I will try my very best to sexually satisfy him as my husband.
I will also make sure that I tell him about my pure sexual history before our wedding night so that he will know what to expect.
I just pray he will try to be gentle with me during my first time and not break my legs ohhh. Then after my first sex, he can teach me all I need to know about satisfying him.
I'm also wondering if Alex is big or small down there and if I would be able to handle it.
After I thought of this, I rebuked myself immediately for having such dirty line of thoughts. I mean I shouldn't be thinking about the sexual part of our marriage only.
Who knows maybe this s£x thing that I am anticipating to freely have in marriage, I might get tired of doing it someday.
I heaved heavily as I looked at the floor and began playing with my feet.
I thought of rebuking myself some more for thinking about s£x with Alex but somehow, my subconscious didn't want me to do that.
Oh yes, you are guilty of having naughty thoughts about your fiance but you wouldn't blame yourself totally, would you....?
Well, I understood why it asked me that.
It is because I have remained a virgin for the past twenty-two years of my life and trust me when I say it wasn't so easy, especially in this generation of ours where s£x has been normalized and abused by many young people.
That's one of the main reasons I can't help anticipating my first s£x with Alex as my husband, because in marriage, I am hoping to explore as much as I want without fear or moral restraint.
I thank God that Alex isn't wasting time in formally marrying me. I also love the fact that he is solidly involving me in the decision making of our upcoming marriage.
I was still thinking about the dates to tell everyone when suddenly, someone bashed open the door and came in to disrupt the event. The next thing I heard was...
"So Alexander, you still went against me to choose this lowlife girl as a wife after all my warnings....?" An angry voice said gradually captivating the attention of everybody.
Nonye is presently in here jubilating with me so it isn't her like many would think it is.
I initially felt it was Alex's sister disrupting us since Alex had earlier whispered to my ears that she isn't in attendance here. I had asked him why and his reply was that his sister had impromptu work-related issues to attend to that couldn't wait until later.
His reply didn't sound genuine to me but for peace sake, I decided to overlook his sister's absence and let things slide so we would enjoy our event without arguments.
I'm hoping this person disrupting our event isn't her because it would feel awkward relating with her after I've just heard her refer to me Kasarachi Arinze as 'lowlife'.
Anyways, how will I know who the person is if I don't turn to check it out. I thought within me as I sighed deeply and mentally prepared myself to face my current fears.
I lifted my eyes from the floor to look at the person standing at the door only to see a strange female face looking angrily at me.
I haven't seen Alex's sister Belinda before so I mistook the person I was seeing to be her.
From the words she uttered earlier, I didn't need to be told that Belinda is reacting the way she is doing because she doesn't want a supposedly low class girl for her brother.
Oh, how wrong I was about my presumption!
What I found out next was shocking.
