KASARACHI

Kasarachi - Episode 43

(Tell it to God)

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

Wearing a pink jumpsuit matched with a blue handbag and short heels, I catwalked into the fancy restaurant.

It is one of the expensive restaurants here in Anambra. I heard that their food, drinks, interior design, and customer service were top notch hence worth the extremely high price. I equally heard that it is mostly rich men and women that patronize them.

I wonder why Alexander did not choose a less expensive place. Well, maybe he wants to prove to me that he has money for real!

Already I told him that I am a simple person, so trying to overly impress me with expensive things ain't really necessary. Just be real and genuine with me, that's what matters more to me than material things.

Besides, going on a date is actually not new to me. I have been on a couple of dates with men who had interest in me back in Canada. But sha it didn't go past the talking stage when I discovered that me and the men weren't compatible in any way.

When I was deported back to Nigeria, added with my uncle's wahala and Mama's debt that came in, I zeroed my mind about anything date or relationship. I also turned down all the men's offers to take me out.

Today is actually going to be the first time I am going on a date here in Nigeria since I came back and that's mainly because madam Ify is the mediator between us.

Alexander smiled the instant he sighted me drawing nearer. I also flashed him a smile as I approached the table he was sitting on.

Thanks to madam Ify who gave Alexander my phone contact, we've been communicating on the phone prior to our meeting today Sunday.

Alexander is very fun to chat and talk with over the phone.

We made it a norm to ask and answer questions about ourselves and families interchangeably. This has helped us know a lot of essential things about ourselves.

That's why it isn't really strange meeting with him because I know to an extent the man whom I am going to be talking to.

I finally reached Alexander's table and he stood up from his side of the chair while still smiling charmingly.

There was a table in the middle that demarcated the two chairs. Alexander turned over to the chair in front of him.

"Welcome Miss Kasarachi. It's a pleasure to host you in one of my restaurants. Please sit" He said sweetly and at the same time drew the chair for me to sit down.

Awwwn. Such a gentleman's way of treating and talking to a lady had involuntarily brought out a big smile on my face.

And did I just hear him say one of his restaurants....? So Alexander owns this big restaurant and even other ones than this...? Oh wow! I'm amazed.

I sat down on the chair and told him thank you. Alexander turned and went back to his side of the chair and he sat down facing me.

"I didn't know you owned this restaurant. It's really nice and worth the hype. Thank you very much for having me Alexander"

"I should be the one thanking you for honoring my invitation for a date. Thank you so much Kasarachi and believe me when I say that I am so happy to grace your presence" Alexander said with a grateful smile revealing his cute set of dentition.

I smiled back without giving a reply. I didn't even know what to say considering the fact that my shy side was slowly kicking in.

I was simply looking down on the table unable to confidently meet Alexander's eyes and from his light jiggle, I am guessing that he actually noticed my shy nature.

But who wouldn't feel shy....? When I am sitting in front of a very cute and influential guy who is behaving this humble with me.

"So tell me Kasarachi....what should the staff offer you...? Oh, that is even the menu in front of you. Please feel free to make the choice of whatever you desire and consider it yours!" Alexander said pointing at the menu that was on my side of the table.

"Thank you Alexander" I said as I picked up the menu and scanned through the list of meals available alongside their prices.

All of the meals on the menu were expensive including the wine, such that I thought of just demanding for water but I know Alexander would not be pleased.

After checking carefully, I made a choice and decided to opt for the less expensive food which is rice with peppered-chicken sauce.

I asked for water which is to be used to digest the meal but Alexander was so against it, I suppose he could guess that I am doing all of that to minimize money.

Alexander took his own menu and after making his food choice, he chose the most expensive wine in the menu for the both of us and told me not to worry about the charge that he has it all covered.

Well, he is the boss here so what more can I say or do aside allowing myself to quietly relax and enjoy the princess treatment.

One of the staff came to take our orders. After telling us to hold on that she will be back shortly, she left us and walked into the corner which I suppose leads to the kitchen.

I began a conversation with Alexander to while away time as we awaited our orders.

"Your Aunty, Mrs Ify has told me a lot of admirable things about you Alexander. Madam Ify is so proud of you and it shows in how often she talks about you even when it is not necessary"

"Don't mind Aunty Ify. That my lovely aunty just would not stop singing my praises to people no matter the many times I have told her to keep me private. Kasarachi I'm sorry if she bored you out with talks about me" Alexander said and chuckled lightly.

I smiled knowing that he was telling the truth. Madam Ify really did bore me out with talks about her cousin Alexander.

"Apology accepted but thinking about it, she isn't wrong to be proud of you though. I want to believe that you deserve the accolades you are getting from her"

"Well maybe you are right and maybe you are not. My main consolation and happiness is that it was you she was telling about me Kasarachi" Alex said smiling at me

"Okay if you say so....I would not push it any further. We met twice in the shop and talked on the phone often afterwards. I want to believe we are friends now so Alexander, is it going to be too early to request something of you....?" I asked feigning a serious face and Alexander looked at me skeptically.

"You want to request something from me....?Of course you can. What could that be....? Hope I didn't do anything wrong...?" Alexander asked all at once and from his hushed tone, it is quite obvious that he is nervous.

I bursted into laughter when I could no longer keep feigning the serious face. What I wanted to request of him wasn't even as serious as I was faking it to be.

"Would it be okay if I call you Alex instead of the long form of your name Alexander...? I mean it's sort of stressful having to use your full name when I can easily call you 'Alex', don't you think so...?" I asked calmly.

I chuckled when I saw Alexander breathe a sigh of relief after hearing my request.

"Of course...that's not a problem at all. Infact, my junior sister Belinda calls me Alex which is a short form of Alexander"

"Oh okay then, from now henceforth it is going to be Alex instead of Alexander. And speaking of your sister....Madam Ify also told me about her, saying that she is a newlywed. Please extend my congratulations and blessings to her"

"I will do so....thank you very much Kasarachi for your good wishes to my sister. I'm sure she will be delighted to hear that it is coming from the girl I am crushing on" Alex said staring at me in admiration and I became shy all over again.

"Oh Alex, stop it already" I said acting all embarrassed whereas I was enjoying the sweet names and admiration from Alex.

The waiter arrived at that moment with our orders and she served us individually.

We thanked her and afterwards she left with the empty tray giving us room to enjoy our meals. Alex and I took our spoons and we started digging into her meals.

Omo! The food was so nice and delicious.

If not that I didn't want to appear like a glutton, I would have ordered for a takeaway home because it was so so so nice.

We were eating silently until we completely cleared our plates.

I don't know if there's a CCTV camera somewhere because the waiter came back to us at almost the exact moment we dropped our spoons. She neatly packed the used plates and left us again like before.

She came back a few minutes later with chips and yogurt saying that it is desert. She left after telling us thank you for patronage.

I must commend their customer service. No wonder it is so hyped in Anambra. Speaking of that, I have observed something.

As weird as this may sound, we are currently the only people in the restaurant which isn't suppose to be so. My curious self couldn't help wondering if this was merely a acoincidence or if it was Alex's handiwork.

It was as though Alex understood what was running through my mind considering how I was looking around the whole restaurant.

He smiled before saying what served as an answer to the questions on my mind.

"I know you are curious as to why it is only us here right now. Well the truth is that it is actually all my doing. I requested that the restaurant be declared closed today!"

I was alarmed when I heard Alex say that.

Honestly, I am not pleased at all and I'm also feeling somehow about the whole thing. I wouldn't want Madam Ify to think that I am in support of her cousin mixing business with pleasure.

"Ah, you did that...? Why Alex...? You shouldn't have done that....now imagine the amount of money you must have lost today!" I said with a slightly raised voice.

"Kasarachi you are a bigger priority than the money that is being earned here. All I want is to have a private date with you without much noise or visual distractions" Alex said trying to convince me into believing that what he did was valid to him.

"Even at that, we would still have had a date without distractions. Afterall everybody would have been here for their own purposes and needs satisfaction...." I said and had to pause because of a hiccup.

Alex told me sorry constantly and hastily poured water from a plastic bottle of water into my glass for me. He stretched it out and urged me to take it and drink for the hiccup.

I smiled at Alex gratefully as I collected the glass of water from his hands and hurriedly drank it in order to eliminate the hiccup.

After I was relieved of hiccuping, I continued rebuking Alex again

"....so tell me Alex, when all of these customers are busy buying food and minding their businesses....would they have the luxury of time to be looking around them, let alone come to disturb us....?" I asked Alex while making it so obvious in my voice that I wasn't happy with what he did.

I know it is his personal business hence he can manage it whichever way he wants but then I care about him as my new friend. I am really not that insensitive and self-centered to be keeping quiet over this.

Moreso, I wouldn't want to give his aunty or entire family a bad impression about me when we haven't even begun anything yet.

"Hmmm....if I am to be given an opportunity to make a different choice from this....trust me when I say that I will turn it down over and over again Kasarachi...." Alex said with his voice filled with so much emotions

Alex paused to look at me directly in the eye and then he continued talking when he saw that I could now meet his eyes unlike before

"....do you know why...? It's because I don't regret clearing my schedule and service to honor our date today. Believe it or not, that's how really special you are to me Kasarachi" Alex said gently

I became shy again and with my head now slightly bent low, I asked Alex the only disturbing question that came to my mind

"Alex don't you think it's too early to be saying this. For all we know....this may not necessarily lead anywhere serious" I said flippantly while shrugging my shoulders.

"You're right. I understand that it is too early to say this but the truth is that I have fallen for you Kasarachi and I would want you to be exclusively mine"

"By being exclusively yours....you mean to be your girlfriend....?"

"I don't think being a girlfriend does justice to what I want you to be to me. If it's not too soon, I would love to marry you before the end of this year. I want to ask you formally... please Kasarachi, will you be my wife....?"

The shocking question from Alex threw me off balance. Yes, I am aware that Alex has interest in me but I just was not expecting this sort of a question on our first date.

I feel like it is moving too fast to be genuine.

I mean how can a man jump from asking me out for a relationship over to asking me to marry him....? Isn't this crazy....?

Are you sure this Alex man is being real with his feelings towards me....? abi is this a trap by my enemies to subdue me...?

Alex was looking at me fixedly probably awaiting a response from me. I looked back at him without smiling or saying anything.

Ten minutes gradually passed by, yet nothing has changed about my silent mood.

To be sincere, I am still thinking about what reply I should give him but no reasonable thing seems to be coming up.

I'm still as confused as ever and I seriously do not know what answer I should give Alex. Should I turn him down or say yes...?

Am I really ready for marriage right now....?
I'm not very sure..
