~ Genevieve ~
If someone had told me today would be the day Dominic's self-control finally snapped, I wouldn't have believed it for a second.
But there he was, his lips barely a quarter of an inch from mine. I clung to my own self-control because I wanted him to be the one to kiss me.
However, my patience was quickly wearing thin, and I held on for him. Finally, his lips brushed ever so lightly against mine, and my eyelids fluttered shut of their own accord.
Goodness, how can such a brief touch turn me ón so much?
I clenched the fabric of his shirt, silently urging him to continue. I didn’t mind freezing to déath in his chilly pool; all that mattered at that moment was his lips on mine.
Dominic tilted his head, causing our lips to brush against one another again. His grip on my waist tightened, making me whimper at the delicious ache that coursed through me.
A fÃre ignited inside me, battling against the frigid water of his pool. My breathing became increasingly erratic.
And just when he finally seemed ready to kiss me, an unfamiliar voice interrupted, halting any further movement from him.
DÃ mn it.
Even Dominic swore under his breath before tearing his gaze away from me.
I looked up at the cockblockér, only to see a man around Dominic's age, I presumed, staring at me with sheer shock written all over his face.
"Oh, f+ck." The man groaned. With a small shake of his head, he added, "I’m so sorry, I didn’t know you..." He looked directly at Dominic. "Goodness, you are going to kÃll me, aren’t you?"
Dominic hissed and turned to face me, his grip leaving my waist, regret flickering in those beautiful golden-brown eyes of his.
I didn’t know what he regretted, but I sincerely hoped it wasn’t me.
As if he had changed his mind, he placed his hands back on my waist and lifted me to sit at the edge of the pool floor. Ignoring the other bloke, he gave me a soft smile, his thumb gently stroking my cheek.
Okay, it's definitely not me.
I licked my lips, earning a low grunt from Dominic before he also hoisted himself up. I stood and faced the intrúder, fully aware that none of my outfit was see-through.
Nonetheless, his eyes gave me a quick once-over, and I returned the favour. The man’s lips broke into a lopsided grin. "You're Genevieve."
He knows!
Does that mean Dominic talks about me?
What if he does?
Well, that’s rather exciting.
"Yes, I am." I replied. "And you are?"
"Dexter, Dominic's best friend."
"He's not my best friend." Dominic quickly denied, still glaring at him.
Yes, I would be annoyed too, but he was surprisingly friendly. And a friend of Dominic's is a friend of mine.
"Well then, I’m his only friend."
"Nice."
"No, it’s not nice, Vixen." His nickname for me slipped out, causing Dexter’s eyes to widen in surprise. "He’s my right-hand man, and nothing more."
Oh.
"She knows?!" Dexter practically yelled, making me flinch a little because I wasn’t expecting it.
"Yes." Both Dominic and I replied in unison.
"You told her?"
"No." Dominic said. "She figured it out on her own." He then turned to me, his glare softening when his eyes landed on me. "Go to your room and change."
My room? Doesn’t that sound unbelievable?
I was still coming to terms with the fact that I had a room in Dominic's house. An actual room with my own belongings that I genuinely loved. A room that belonged solely to me.
"Sure." I nodded and left, not before hearing Dex ask what he meant by 'her room'.
..
When I came downstairs, only Dexter was lounging on the sofa, engrossed in his phone. As much as I tried to be quiet, he noticed me and turned his head.
"You walk awfully quietly, just like him."
I didn’t need any explanation about who 'him' was. I simply shrugged and sat down beside him.
"Can I call you Dex?"
"Sure, little thing."
"I don’t like that."
"You don’t want me to call you little thing?"
"Yeah."
"What about Kiddo?"
"Hate that too."
"Oof, you are quite picky."
"Yeah?"
"Uh-huh."
My eyes inadvertently drifted to his chest. Two buttons on his shirt were undone, giving me a glimpse of his torso.
"If you keep looking at me like that, Genevieve, Dominic will have my head."
For some reason, I feel as though I've seen that necklace around his neck before, but I can't quite recall where. I'm certain I wasn't in England when I saw it, though.
Why am I overthinking this? He could have simply picked it up from any old shop.
No, I'm sensing there's more to it than that. Besides, I'm an accessory girl, and I haven't come across a design like that before.
I brushed my hair back and asked, "Your necklace, where did you get it?"
"Rússia. Why?"
"You bought it?"
"It was custom-made, but yes."
"I've seen it before."
"That's impossible."
No, not really.
"Are you sure? Someone else could have nicked your design."
"Where did you see it?"
Suddenly, it felt like that animated lightbulb in cartoons had switched on in my brain, and I blurted out, "Switzerland."
Yes, now I remember.
It was on Olivia's royal assistant. What was his name again?
Henry?
Eww, that’s my grandfather’s name.
Harris?
Nope.
Hudson?
No, not that one either.
Oh, I've got it.
It's Harry. Like Harry Styles Harry.
I remember Olivia teasing him about it.
"It was on a man named Harry."
Dexter's lips curled into a broad smile as he picked up his phone from his lap. He showed me the screen, and my mouth dropped in surprise at his wallpaper. "This Harry?"
It's the chap alongside him, and they look utterly smitten with each other.
Oh, my God.
"Harry is your boyfriend?!" I couldn't decide if it was a statement or a question, and neither could he. "That's so sweet. I feel awful for having shipped him with a girl now."
Dex laughed, brushing it off as though it were nothing. "It's fine. You didn't know."
"No wonder he didn’t even glance at anyone else, whether male or female—he had you all along."
"I know; I'm quite a catch, aren’t I?"
"You are," I admitted. "You're very handsome."
That wasn't a lie.
But apparently, someone didn't take too kindly to me complimenting another man, as Dominic's voice startled both of us as he said, "Can you two take your flirting outside?"
Eww, respectfully.
My eyes are set solely on Dominic Morozov, and nothing can change that, at least for now.
"That wouldn't be too bad, would it, Genevieve?" Dexter playfully nudged me with a cheeky grin.
What is wrong with people nudging me today?
First, it was that awful classmate, Margot, then it was my own Dominic, and now it's this chap I barely know.
"Don't worry, Nic," Dex said. "Her silence means she belongs to you."
I belong to him?
That's a new one, and surprisingly, it doesn't sound too bad.
Dominic also seemed shaken by the statement. "So, what brings you here?" Dexter gestured to me with his eyes. "It's alright; I trust her."
My heart swelled with fulfilment to the point I felt I might burst.
He trusts me.
Dominic Morozov trusts me, Genevieve King.
"The Puerto Rican said building will commence today. And the Ukrainians are coming tomorrow; where do you want me to schedule the meeting?"
I soon tuned them out while I occupied myself with the book I’d brought downstairs after changing my clothes, as I’d left my Kindle in the car and was far too lazy to fetch it.
"Vixen?" Dominic's voice interrupted my reading, and I looked up at him. "Are you hungry?"
I checked the time on the clock and then back to him. "Where's Dex?"
"You mean Dexter?"
"Yes, Dex."
"Don't call him that."
"Why not?"
"Because his name is Dexter."
"You don’t mind when I call you Dom."
"That's because it's me, and Dexter is Dexter."
"I don’t understand."
"Genevieve."
I smiled. "Are you jealous?"
"No, I am not."
"Yes, you are."
He didn't admit it, but one day, I'll make sure he does.
♡♡♡♡
"Jules, is it true?" I asked my best friend, Julianna, on Monday when I found her at her locker.
"Is what true?" She responded with a question, a look of confusion on her face.
"That you’re dating Alessio."
Alessio is the quarterback for the school's basketball team and the son of one of the wealthiest surgeons in England. While he isn't a playboy like Liam, he’s not exactly a saint around girls either.
"Yes."
"What? Why? Do you even like him?"
"Well, I wouldn't be dating him if I didn't like him, would I?" Her tone was rather sharp, as if she were cross with me or something.
"I was merely asking."
"Well, now you know, so don’t ask again."
"Did I do something wrong?"
"Did you?" she snapped, striding towards the cafeteria.
Taken aback, I followed her, only for her to come to an abrupt halt when she was doused with orange juice from above.
The entire cafeteria erupted with laughter as I gaped at her state. I reached out to place a hand on her shoulder, but she flinched away from me.
"Jules..."
My words faded when she turned and bolted away. Just as I was about to chase after her, my gaze landed on Margot and her insufferable entourage, smirking at me.
I’ll deal with them later.
"Julianna, what on earth is wrong with you?" I exclaimed as soon as I entered the girls' bathroom, where she was changing out of her uniform.
"Why do you even care?"
"What are you on about? Of course I care."
I couldn’t fathom why she would even doubt that.
"No, you don’t!" Julianna shouted, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Everything about you at the moment is Dominic, Dominic, Dominic. All I hear from you is Dominic this, Dominic that; honestly, I’m so tired of hearing his name from you. For goodness' sake, Genevieve, you’re my friend, not his."
Ah, this is about him.
"I’m sorry for sharing what’s going on in my life with my best friend, because I thought she actually cared."
I can be añgry too.
In fact, my añger is justified. How was I supposed to know what was happening with her when she always insists that nothing is wrong with her life?
I’m not a mind reader, for crying out loud.
"I do! But do you care about mine?"
"I do!"
"Well, I don’t feel it anymore."
What on earth?
