Author's POV

The tension in the room was palpable as Alexander sat on the bed and Deluxe stood in front of him, hesitant to touch him. She kept her hands behind her back, avoiding his gaze. Alexander longed to hug her, but the betrayal restrained him. Her green eyes, which had captivated him from the first day they met, were now filled with tears and fatigue.

Try as he might to forget, he couldn't. Memories of their happy moments together tormented him, causing him mini heartbreaks with each recollection."

Tilting her head to study Alexander's face, Deluxe pleaded, "Please, I know you probably hate me, but you need to let me go to Mexico to see my Dad."

"You think I hate you?" Alexander asked, standing up. She didn't respond. "Tell me, do you think I hate you?"

"Yes," she said simply, with a slight shrug. "You don't want to talk to me and you avoid eye contact..."

"That's because I don't want to hit you! I don't want to do something that I'll regret for the rest of my life." Alexander snapped suddenly. After taking a deep breath, he ran his hands through his hair. "I'm afraid that if I look at you, I might do something I'll regret. I don't hate you, I'll never hate you."

A tear escaped Deluxe's eye as she stared at Alexander. "You don't?" she asked, seeking confirmation.

Alexander shook his head. "No, I don't."

"Really?" she gasped, smiling brightly, waiting for his next words. When he remained silent, she pursed her lips with a ghost smile. "Does that mean you will let me go see my Dad in Mexico?"

Alexander stared wordlessly at her for two minutes before saying, "No, I can't. Your father has to come here to get you if he wants to see you. You're not leaving my sight."

"But..."

"No buts."

"Why are you doing this, Alexander? If my dad comes to Italy, it will be bad. Please, just let me go."

A scoff followed by a bitter laugh escaped his mouth. "How bad?" he asked sarcastically, walking away from Deluxe to the door. "Forget about going to Mexico, you won't leave this country."

Deluxe momentarily closed her eyes, exhaling a deep, tired sigh. "Please..."

Alexander's eyes darkened as he took a step closer to her. She unconsciously stepped back, her back meeting the wall. "When I say no, I mean no," He said firmly.

"I need to see my Dad," Deluxe said, staring defiantly into his eyes, the ones she loved so much. "You can't stop me from going to see my Dad, Alex."

He burst into maniacal laughter, a sinister look in his gray eyes. The laughter trailed off into a devilish smirk. "I can't? You think I can't stop you?" He scoffed and absentmindedly poked the inside of his mouth with his tongue. "I can and will stop you from leaving. I simply can't let you go, princess. Remember when I said you were mine? I meant it with every fiber of my being. I'm never going to let you go, even if you beg me to."

His words only made her smile. It filled her cheeks with pride as she stared at the man towering over her. Deluxe tilted her head to properly look at him, a grin spreading across her beautiful face as she lifted her hands to caress his face.

His eyelids fluttered at her gentle touch and he sighed, almost melting completely, but he couldn't let her know that she was his weakness. Not when she turned out to be Deluxe Dominguez, the daughter of the Mexican Mafía clan.

"I don't want you to let me go either, Xander. When I said I love you, I meant it too with every single atom of my being. I love you, Alexander, and I need you to know that I won't let anyone, not my father or my brother or your father, get between us. I need you to know that when I promised you forever, I meant it. I need you to know that even if you don't trust me now, I trust you with my heart and I know you won't hurt me, not intentionally."

He exhaled, his head lowering to rest on her shoulder as she remained pressed against the wall. A whimper escaped his lips as his hands circled around her waist, pulling her closer to his body. "I really want to hate you, but I can't. I can't bring myself to forget about everything, every memory of ours, about the times you made me laugh when I didn't want to, the times you made me feel things I shouldn't have felt. Why can't I hate you?" He pulled back his head from her shoulder and held her face in his hands, staring down at her with a piercing gaze. "What did you do to me, minx? I want to despise you so much that I would pull the trigger right at your head without thinking twice about it, but I can't. I can't even bear the thought of losing you, let alone taking your life with my own hands. When I saw you bleeding and pale, laying down in my lap, I felt lifeless. Why do you have to be his daughter? Why? I was ready to go against the world for you, Alice? Wait, you aren't even Alice." He exhaled shakily, tears welling in his eyes and streaming down his face. "W-why?"

"I can't choose my family, love."

"You're right." He nodded and hiccupped, tucking the strands of loose hair that had escaped her bun. "But you can choose not to hurt the person who loves you."

"I didn't know that I would come to love you."

"Even though you didn't know that you would fall for me too, you made me love you and didn't think about how I would feel after your stupid plan succeeded."

"I did."

"And? Did you stop? Did you tell your father, 'hey Dad, I don't want to do this anymore. I can't afford to hurt him, he is human.', did you?"

Deluxe swallowed and blinked away the tears in her eyes, maintaining eye contact. "I didn't, but I thought about it."

"Thinking about it doesn't justify breaking my heart, Deluxe!" Alexander yelled, causing her to flinch. "Do you even love me?" He regretted the words as soon as they left his mouth, watching her eyes water at his words.

"Don't!" Deluxe yelled back, staring at him with equal intensity, tears threatening to fall. "You can't say whatever you want, but please don't doubt my love for you. I won't accept that, Alexander."

He inhaled, trying to calm himself down as his thumb traced her face, wiping away her tears. "You have to prove it. Kitten, you'll have to prove it to me so I'll know, okay?"

"Alex, I'll do anything for you."

He chuckled, still not breaking eye contact. It was like a contest between them to see who would break it first, or perhaps they wanted to express their true emotions through their eyes. "You know the weight of what you just said? When you said 'anything', what do you mean?"

She darted out her tongue to wet her lips and sighed. "Anything doesn't involve anyone I love getting hurt."

"And who are the people you love?"

"My family. You. Your sister, Madison. Your mom. In short, whatever you want to do, please don't involve our families. Promise me."

Alexander raised his brows, tilting his head as he hummed thoughtfully. "No can do, love. I won't hurt your mom, and of course, not you, but your brothers and father are fair game."

"Alexander..."

He let go of her head and stepped back, finally breaking eye contact as anger slowly set in. "Your father sent you to Italy to make me fall from the top spot by making me fall in love with you and get distracted, and I did. I don't know how I did, but I got distracted by you. If I had fallen off the top spot, then my father would've continued his bullshít talk about how I'm not fit to be his son and how poorly I'm running his legacy because of you, and you know how my father is." Alexander ran his fingers through his hair, another sinister chuckle escaping him. "Let's say I let that go. Your brothers had the audacity to break into my house and point a gun at me. They not only pointed a gun at me, but they also shot one of my men. So, I'm sorry, princess, but they started this, and it's only right that I finish it, don't you think?" He ended with an evil smirk and left the room without giving Deluxe a chance to speak.

She closed her eyes and let out a heavy sigh, feeling tired and suffocated by everything she had caused. She knew who Alexander was and what he was capable of doing when he was enraged. She also knew that smirk, and it spelled trouble.
