THE MISTAKE OF MY MOTHER
The Mistake Of My Mother -Episode 8

She felt her heart skip a beat as she opened her eyes and saw the gateman bent over her. She did not know what to do because she was afraid that struggling with him would put me in danger and her mouth was clasped shut with his left hand. She looked into his eyes and what she saw there terrified her more than anything in the whole world. He had a look of sheer lust mixed with something else she could not pin point. She knew even I was in danger. In a twinkle of an eye, he brought out a glistening knife- he seemed to have changed his mind about raping her anyway since he seemed to be in a mad rush. He dashed for a boobs, and because he needed the use of his two hands, he removed his hand from her mouth warning her not to make a sound with his eyes. Before he could get an inch closer to her boob, she shrieked so loud he jerked back and started looking frantically around especially at the door to be sure he wasn’t coming out any sooner but she did not relent, she kept screaming. When he heard the doorknob turning, he took off.

Olamide yanked the door open just on time to see the fleeing man with the glistening knife in hand. He sprinted after him but before he could reach him, he had already jumped over the fence not minding the barbed wire. He quickly went back to her, she sat hurdled on a corner, quivering out of fright. He bent over, cover her up with the wrapper, scooped her into his arms and carried her in.

the lady woke up when they stepped into the bedroom.

Lady: “What is going on here? I think I heard someone scream in my dream. Why are you bringing her in here?” she sat up.

Olamide: “Can you go to the sitting room please?” his voice sounded hoarse and serious.

Lady: “Why? Because of your maid? Isn’t she supposed to be sleeping outside?”

Olamide: “I swear I will throw you outside the gate if you ask me even one more question right now. Go and wait for me in the sitting room now!” he bellowed, casting a glance at my mum who was still in shock. The lady scrambled to her feet and strutted off hissing like an angry python.

He placed her gently on the bed…

Olamide: “I am sorry” I am sure he could not recognise the sound of his own voice. Saying sorry was not something he did often.

Ahunli: “I will pack out of your house in the morning”

Olamide: “You don’t have to do that. Our two years contract is not over yet and don’t try to use this against me. It is part of our agreement that I could still do whatever I wanted. I could still have my space so why are you acting like a real wife being cheated on? That is not even the issue right now, who was the man? I will kill him when I get hold of him I swear

Ahunli: “The gateman” she said and turned her face to the other side when she felt the tears threatening to come rushing down all of a sudden.

Olamide: “The gateman? You mean Audu?”

Ahunli: “Yes! and he seemed to have been trying to cut off my boobs and probably cut out some other things from my body”

Olamide: “Jeeesus! F--k! D--n it! I shouldn’t have let him escape just like that. I pray he meets his nemesis someday by crossing my path. If I don’t kill him with my bare hands, God!” he thundered, pacing around furiously.

Ahunli: “Stop acting that way. One might actually start thinking you care about me when you obviously don’t. Your lady friend is waiting for you in the sitting room. Go and meet her” she said and turned her back to him. She started weeping when she heard his shuffling feet on the tiles indicating he was actually leaving. She was still scared out of her wits and all she wanted was for him to get on the bed with her and hold her in his arms. She felt so vulnerable and helpless that she started cursing the day she actually decided to trick him into getting her pregnant. What pained her the most was the fact that there was nowhere she could run to at that moment? She had no friend anymore. Alexis had stopped talking to her the way she used to no matter how much she tried to make her see reasons or get their relationship back on the right track again.

She heard them talking in the sitting room…

Lady: “So how can you ask me to vacate the room for her like that? I know she is not your maid. You are just a f-----g lying p---k” she heard her say.

Olamide: “Whatever you say. Just mind your own business okay? Besides what is your name again?”
Lady: “What has my name got to do with you? Just pay me for my services tomorrow and i’d f--k out of your miserable life. the funniest part is you don’t even know how to pleasure a woman. You are just so zero”

Olamide: “Is that so?” he asked sarcastically. You see that lady in there? can you go tell her that so you can experience the worst day of your life? how do you think she got that big belly? I scored a goal in the most erotic way any lady can ever experience. You can never know how that feels since you have tasted so many men and your life is d--n ruined. Pathetic s--t. Now that we’ve exhausted all we have to say, can we sleep now? just sleep on the long chair over there, I will go back to the bedroom”

She started to forgive him just at the thought of him getting back to the bedroom with her.

Lady: “So you mean you threw a woman carrying your baby out in the middle of the night? you are the meanest man I have ever seen in my entire life. if I were she, I’d walk out of your life at daybreak without leaving even a single reminder of me behind. I will make sure you never get a whiff of your baby after then”

Well doing that did cross her mind but she knew that once he starts acting sweet towards her, her resolve will melt off like a tiny piece of ice under a scorching Zamfara sun (That of kaura namoda to be precise).

Olamide: “Oh really? Well thank God she is not you. If she were, she wouldn’t even be living in my house to begin with. She would have probably being a prostitute though and I don’t sow my seed in an unwatered ground. I first nurture it, clear it, water it then sow my seed in. you are a very infertile land dear lovely. Now get out!” he ordered.
She knew their little argument was going to get out of hand and turned restlessly on the bed making me turn with her.

Lady: “You insult me not knowing you are exactly like me. You call me a s--t or prostitute not knowing you are a prostitute or even worse yourself. What good man will have a woman waiting for him at home but will still patronize a prostitute in the same home? you are worse than the devil and believe me, I am not leaving this house until you have paid me every dime for my time”

Olamide: “You think I am daft? I did not touch you last night. so just get out”

She heard them struggling and realised he was trying to push her out while she resisted him. she got out of the bed. As soon as she stepped into his home office, she saw her dash for the kitchen and returned swinging a knife furiously at him while he dodged it.

Ahunli: “Stop it now!” she yelled and the lady stopped for a while.
Lady: “You just get back inside while I deal with this scum who feels ladies are his to be rubbished. I will cut off that manhood you use in terrorizing innocent ladies like her” she threatened and flung the knife at him again and the knife caught him on right thigh. My mum quickly went and stood in between the two of them when the lady swung the knife in a blind fury the second time and…
This part reminds me of another stanza of Samson’s poem I recited from the beginning of this story:
Who shall save him
That holds a lighted lamp
In his hands
And yet lose himself
In the open roads?

QUESTIONS
How many Gbosa for the lady?
Is the lady’s anger justified?
Abeg who the knife hit?
Is Ahunli dead? Or is it Olamide?
Should Ahunli just do what the lady suggested when she said she’d disappear if she were to be the one or should she stay and hope he changes?
